About accessmandate
accessmandate tracks European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) obligations, deadlines, enforcement authorities and penalties, country by country, plus a comparison of accessibility vendors.
Methodology
Every field in the country data carries a source_url pointing to the official legal text, official gazette, or the enforcement authority's own site — never a blog or a consultancy summary. If a fact cannot be confirmed from an official source, the field is left blank rather than estimated. This applies especially to penalty amounts and dates: a wrong number here is worse than no number.
Country data is re-checked monthly by an automated job that searches official sources and opens a pull request with any changes. A human reviews every change before it is published — the job never publishes directly.
Data last reviewed: 2026-08-10.
Vendor listings and affiliate links
Some links on this site, marked "affiliate link," earn us a commission if you buy through them. This does not change how a vendor is described or rated.
Overlay widgets (automated accessibility tools you paste onto a page) generally pay a higher commission than manual accessibility audits. We say this openly because it is exactly the kind of incentive that produces biased "comparisons" elsewhere. Independent accessibility practitioners and disability advocacy organisations have repeatedly found that overlays do not reliably achieve WCAG conformance on their own. We describe what each vendor actually claims and note that dispute — we do not rank overlays above manual audits to chase a bigger commission.
Not legal advice
This site summarises publicly available legal information. It is not legal advice. Laws change, transpositions get amended, and enforcement guidance evolves. Verify anything you rely on against the official source linked on each country page before making a compliance decision — and talk to a lawyer qualified in the relevant jurisdiction for anything that matters.
